La Fandi

Last night I was invited by Cairo Spots for a little food tasting at La Fandi, a small restaurant at Courtyard Maadi, which I had never been to until yesterday.

As you can see, it’s a small place, but they served very nice Egyptian food. Mostly sandwiches and appetizers, but I liked the freshness and general taste of the things I tried.

First off, I had ordered the sausage sandwich with pomegranate extract & vegetables, very delicious, I’m very biased when it comes to pomegranate extract 🙂 but seriously, the sandwich was full of flavor, with the cut-out peppers and everything.

I then wanted to try the pickled eggplant (another thing I love), but they didn’t have it, which was odd, because that’s not something you run of. Anyways, I then ordered their potato wedges, served with a side of spices (دقة), which I really liked as well. The wedges were perfectly cut and not too hard or too moist.

I then took a bite of my friend’s herring (رنجة) salad sandwich, it was good, all fresh ingredients, I wasn’t loving the intense onion flavor, but have to say it’s common with herring fish.

In conclusion, it’s a nice place to have a quick bite, average prices, make sure you go in small groups. We had a great time playing dominoes while eating, which was a fun experience for us 🙂
